As much as we dislike lace curtains, we dislike bare windows even more, so the frillies are staying up until we find the right curtains to replace them. Fortunately, we got some great curtains for the family room on sale this week, so the lace in there can finally go wherever lace curtains go when they’re no longer wanted.*
Look at this pile! That’s one room – one room – of lace!
The double doors for the opening between the family room (originally the parlor) and the living room were stored in the basement. Thank goodness someone saved them, because they’re obviously original to the house. Plus they’re awesome – 8′ doors and 8″ trim look like so much wood! I still need to plane the top of the left door (it won’t close more than halfway), but that wasn’t enough to deter us from hanging them right away.
*Goodwill. We don’t like frilly curtains, but I’m sure someone else is looking for exactly that.

Those doors are gorgeous! It looks like the house will be beautiful once you get the frill off. We’ll try to do a lighting blog soon – but the best bet is to get a wiring book from the library – there was a Black & Decker book about wiring that was good, plus the National Electric Code is not too tough to read and you can find help for it online. There’s also an older book about re-wiring old fixtures that I just can’t put my hands on this moment – but we’ll get it on there sometime.
I will never understand why people remove doors like that. You are so lucky they were still in the basement.
