I found this archive via a search engine. Is there any continuation of this project? Any instructions or helpful hints.

I Just cut down and milled 2 Walnut trees, and this is exactly what I'd like to do. Likewise I have 8, 14 foot Oak boards sitting in my barn - I believe they are 2x12. Like yours, they are a true 2 inches thick, not 1 3/4.

Any help is much appreciated.

I *love* the islands... I had delusions of settling in to a little cottage out there when I first moved to Toronto proper. I'm still on the Toronto Island group serve, but quickly realized the futility of being on The List. Still, it's nice to dream... even if it is vicariously. Through people with a lot more money. And luck. And patience :P

Wow, that's really sad. They just need to buy an old house and fix it up. I was at a friend's house for a football game today. I was studying her newly constructed house and noticed that the floor was not level, the baseboards were not even, her tile had chips in it and a multitude of other things. And she paid WAY more for her house than I did.....

Notice the hilarious correction printed at the bottom of this story.

"The Smyrna, Ga., dateline in this article was incorrectly given in some versions as Smarmy, Ga."

I've got to believe that some WSJ employee had fun lambasting Smyrna.

Great photos! We have a couple of burning bushes in front of our house and they were beautiful this year! I ran out of time to take pictures though before all the leaves fell off... :(

Wow! That is gorgeous! I hate winter too. Although, today it was a high of 68 here in Louisiana. If it were not so completely inappropriate to wear them during winter time, I could almost have worn flip flops!

Good morning I saw the mudroom pic above, it looks like an olive green and butter yellow walls with a wood stained glass door. Can you tell me how you got that look, I am trying to replicate the colour and look of the mudroom i.e. walls, door and cabinets and would appreciate your help. Also the knobs and hooks can you tell me what colour and where you purchased them....thank you, Raihana and Brian

I picked up a Milwaukee chair very similar to yours put out along the road this Sunday here in Fairfield Co., Connecticut. Antique house with huge barn that has been on the market over a year and that was last priced at 100K less than the poor couple paid in in 2006. Hopefully it is sold, as it now appears they are clearing out the barn where I suspect this was. It was completely gray wood but solid and mechanically perfect. I spent yesterday sanding it all down and , with one coat of miniwax poly stain, came out looking like oak again. It has one wider splat in the center and a somewhat fancier adjustment knob than yours. Also it has a red rubber edge inserted along the front of the wider flatter seat. I only picked it up because I needed it, having sold my old one 10 years ago when we sold our house. I am a veteran ebayer but have to learn to use craigslist I guess. I am trying to sell a monster oriental carpet as "local pickup only" and only get looney offers from the west coast.
